Established in 2005, the University of Baltimore School of Law Truancy Court Program (TCP) in the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts is one of Maryland’s longest running, in-school programs designed to improve attendance and mentor children and youth. For almost 20 years, the TCP has served more than 2,600 public school students and their families in 51 schools, 41 of which are in Baltimore City.
Nearly all of the students who participate in the TCP live in neighborhoods with high levels of violence, trauma, poverty and homelessness. In the Baltimore City Public School System, 65% of elementary school students, 63% of middle school students, and 57% of high school students qualify for the Free and Reduced Meals program (FARMs). In the schools where the TCP operates, these numbers are often much higher—in fact, in one school, 81% of students qualify for FARMs.
So many of our families rely on school meals. Unfortunately, when school is not in session, those meals aren’t available for students. Donations will be used towards food baskets and other supports our families require. As spring break approaches, we ask you to make a charitable gift that will help us provide food baskets to as many of our TCP students and families as possible.
Each basket costs approximately $40 and will include enough food to share with the student's household. Thank you for helping to support Baltimore City students and their families during this time of need!
